Mardi Gras: Its Carnival Time!

Well, there is certainly MORE than one good thing about being a Southern girl from New Orleans! Where do I even start?! I would be here ALL day naming all of the fabulous things NOLA has to offer. More specifically, the holidays are not over after Christmas. Yep, that is right! “Its Carnival Ti-me!” Sure, go ahead and try to imagine me dancing around and singing – because that is exactly what I am doing right now! Hehe.

Now, trust me.. I go through an intense stage of mourning while taking down the tree and watching my husband remove good ole’ Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman from the front yard. Like, for whatever reason.. I CANNOT let it go! But as soon as I catch a glimpse of some royal purple, green, and gold.. I light up and suddenly have a smile from ear to ear. It NEVER gets old! Oh, and do not even get me started on king cake! GOOD-ness. My mouth is watering just thinking of all of the different varieties of king cake and delicious fillings.

Anyways, I have some BIG news! I am beyond thrilled to have the privilege of riding in a Mardi Gras parade this carnival season as a carnival queen. Yep, you heard right. It is with great pleasure that I formally announce my ascension to the throne as Queen Morpheus XVI. Naturally, a photo session was required. I mean who wouldn’t want to show off all of this bling?! Hehe. I chose my best gal, Theresa with Theresa Elizabeth Photography , to capture this special moment in time.

I am beyond honored and looking forward to this year’s upcoming carnival season. I hope for a safe, yet fun ride for all.. including my King, my court, myself, and all of my fellow riders as we celebrate throughout the city in true, carnival fashion on Friday, February 9, 2018! If you loved what you seen here, be sure to stay tuned as I will be posting about my queen’s party that I will be hosting this upcoming weekend. I cannot wait to share ALL of the details! It will be fit for a queen.. and sure to put you in a “bubbly” type of mood.

I hope to see you all there as The Krewe of Morpheus “Goes Wild” and parades the streets of NOLA! Click here for the 2018 Mardi Gras Parade Schedule! #LaissezLesBonsTempsRouler

Valentine’s Day: Cupid Approved Play Date!

Hello Love Bugs! I sure have a lot of sweetness for you. I love, love, love everything about Valentine’s Day! I just think it is such a cute, festive time for all of those who admire or deeply love someone. Obviously, my little boy is the king of “my” heart! So, I could not wait to share this holiday with him. I just love this little dude to pieces. I also enjoy dressing him up as MUCH as I can because one day I will not be able to do so. Like, the same day he thinks I am NOT cool anymore. Ugh. I am dreading that day by the way!

Anyways, I just adore the way this styled shoot turned out. I decided to celebrate the holiday with my sweet boy by baking some sweet, delicious treats for him. I also thought it would be a lot of FUN to invite over his precious friend, Grace, for a Valentine’s Day play date. I think it is pretty obvious that they both had a GREAT time! What do you think? I hope you are prepared for a sweetness overload!

Hello Sweet Mommies! If you are anything like me, your little one’s birthday party is so VERY important! Right?! Like, the moment I thought about my sweet little baby boy turning one.. I cried. And.. then I started planning his special celebration. I just knew it had to be PERFECT!

“And.. they named him King of all Wild Things!”

Now, we shared a special celebration for my sweet Avery’s first birthday in August. So, this blog post is well overdue. However, life has been hectic and CRAZY! I am sure some of you all can relate. It is for those times when you want to look back and reminisce on precious moments to have as memories to cherish for a lifetime. So, if your little one’s special day is soon approaching or you just need some inspiration to spark your creative juices for an upcoming event, here is a little party inspiration.

Anyways, I am so excited to FINALLY have the chance to share this special day and all of the details! So, get READY for a ton of photos by the amazing Theresa Matherne with Theresa Elizabeth Photography. Theresa, you ALWAYS do such a wonderful job at capturing such precious moments throughout my family and I’s life! Trust me, there were so MANY cute moments from Avery’s first birthday.. that it was REALLY hard to narrow it down. I sincerely hope this blog post captures the festivity of the day.. and inspires you to get creative with your celebrations to come!

If it is not clear, my son’s birthday party was inspired from the children’s picture book, Where the Wild Things Are, by American writer and illustrator Maurice Sendak. I just love this children’s book and its theme of mysterious, “wild things”. I thought it was a perfect fit for my little “wild thing”, Avery. I just thought it to be suitable! Like most, I had to have a pre-party photoshoot for my little guy that would get everyone excited about the upcoming event. I even made my little dude’s photoshoot smash cake all on my VERY own. For more photo’s of Avery’s “Where the Wild Things Are” photoshoot, click here.

So, for starters.. a party is NO party without fabulous invitations with cute wording that captures the theme! Like, seriously.. aren’t these invitations by Cloud 9 Factory on Etsy absolutely FABULOUS?! I just love collaborating with this creative gal. We just click! It is totally normal for us to get a little out of hand with our ideas. Nevertheless, the final product is ALWAYS so rewarding! I must say, I even blew myself away with these Pinterest worthy invitations. What do you think?

Let The Wild Rumpus Start! Avery, King Of All Wild Things Is Turning One! Join us for a celebration and some mischief on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 2:00 PM! Please RSVP or We’ll Eat You Up!

I absolutely LOVE details! If you know me well, then you already know I am ALL about the details. So, I chose to add some festive ambiance to the fireplace with the photos from Avery’s “Where the Wild Things Are” photoshoot. I just thought it was a cute touch and a good idea of displaying his photos. Check it out!

Now, lets talk about this dessert table and backdrop. I mean, how insanely gorgeous are all of these desserts?! Like, my mouth is watering just looking at it. It was a definite that this table had to be nothing short of perfect. So, that is when I decided to have Sucré
create a cake, smash cake, and coordinating desserts to compliment the children’s picture book.

Avery First Birthday 61

The themed cake and dessert table was baked with every detail in mind and created by Chef Tariq and his amazing team of pastry chefs and artist. If you ask me, they did not disappoint and certainly captured it perfectly! From the strawberry cream cheese puffs with horns down to the mini cupcakes made to look like miniature versions of King Max’s crown, each and every dessert was created and inspired to capture some element from the children’s book. Oh, and lets not forget the assortment of tasty macaroons! Yum.

And.. some MORE goodies to “GNASH” your teeth into!!!

But, time for cake! Ya’ll.. this cake was E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G!!! I mean, it was so wonderful that I did not even want to cut it. Not only was it absolutely adorable, but it was tasty as well! I could sit here and go on and on about it. But, I think pictures speak more loudly than words. So, I will just leave this right here. Mic DROP!

As for the dessert table backdrop, I did a little “DIY”. I hand painted and glued moss to each of these little wooden letters that read “Wild One”, which I bought from Michaels Craft Store. I also had my younger brother and a family friend help me with building the backdrop made out of dusty, old pallets that I gathered after our home’s garden was finished being installed. I mean, talk about #winning! Hehe. I then hot glued the moss covered letters onto the pallet wall and placed an assortment of grasses, other mosses, and green vinery throughout. I just love the finished product! Do you?

Avery First Birthday 65

I also hand painted signs to place throughout our home for the party. I did get a lot of my inspiration for these signs from Pinterest. I started by buying some plain wooden board signs from Michaels, paint pens, and chose some of my favorite quotes from the book. From there, I just started drawing away! I thought the sign below was a cute little detail to keep guest and any little “wild things” from going upstairs.

“Then far away across the world he smelled good things to eat!” Now, if you think the dessert table was nothing short of Ahhh-MAZING. Well, neither was my kitchen filled with hot and savory things to munch on! I loved working with Mr. Mudbug & 12 Seasons Catering. If you think my creativity impresses you. Well, you have not yet met Kristin. She was AMAZING to work with! She was so helpful and took the time to listen to all of my ideas. I loved how she went above and beyond to name each individual food item after something inspirational in the book. If you do not believe me, just take a look for yourself. Warning!!! If you are hungry, I suggest you scroll on by VERY quickly.

Oh, and do NOT get me started on BJ’s “Sweet and Savory” Popcorn bar. I think this was the real hit with ALL of the kids at the party. Yep, that is right.. there was freshly popped popcorn accompanied by a variety of sweet and savory toppings which included assorted candies, chocolate pieces, and many more additional surprises!

And.. we all know a house full of “Wild Things” deserves a specialty cocktail of some Sort. Like this wild juice called “Swamp Water”. How stinking cute is this drink??? I have to admit, this drink surely did have a kick and lived up to its name! But, it was a perfect way to top off a party. I think my guest would have to agree. Cheers!

In my opinion, a party is NO party without some fresh florals! I am a sucker for beautiful floral arrangements. Like, a total MUST or else. I wanted a whimsical, yet woodsy wildflower vibe. I felt like placing the florals in mason jars would give it a real masculine, yet rustic look. And.. I must say they turned out to be even more FABULOUS than I had expected. I have my talented cousin, Christina Williams McGrath, with Plantation Decor Inc. to thank for these little “WILDLY” cute arrangements!

And what would a party be without any photo props?! I just loved the way this photo prop turned out. Again, I have my younger brother and a family friend to thank for this also. I am too afraid to handle any type of tools or machinery that may consist of sharp objects! lol. However, it was fairly easily and all you need is a handy man or two, some wood, a hammer, nails, and some spray glue. I went online, found a cute photo, and ordered a large poster size off of Vistaprint. Super EASY.. and SUPER cute! I must say, this little cutie makes this photo prop even more cute. Would you just look at that smile!

All of Avery’s party guest walked away with goodies as well! I created a table full of cute, little succulents from The Succulent Source. I just loved the way this table turned out! I loved all of the wild, but earthy elements that it brought to the party. I also paired it next to the same little teepee scene that I created for Avery’s “Where the Wild Things Are” first birthday photoshoot as well.

In my opinion, everything was absolutely perfect! Honestly, there is not one thing I would have changed. I am truly grateful for all of the family and friends able to come together and celebrate Gerard and I’s little boy! Again, I still cannot believe that I am the mother of a toddler. Seriously! How did this all happen so fast?!

I really hope you enjoy these photo from Avery’s “Where the Wild Things Are” birthday party! Again, thank you for subscribing. I truly hope you enjoyed this blog! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask away! I would love for you to share your thoughts.
XOXO, Britt

Birthday Smash Cake Photoshoot: “And.. they named him King of All Wild Things!”

Hey ya’ll! So my baby finally turned one in July! Crazy, right?! I feel like I was just welcoming him into the world, like yesterday. So, of course I cried like a baby.. and then had to pull myself together so I could make this a first birthday to remember! Anyways, I am so glad that I finally found the time to share this with you all. So, please forgive me for taking so long! Anyways..

I am sure you have all heard about smash cakes. It is like the thing to do once your little one turns one. Basically, you place a cake in front of your little one and take photos as they dig into the cake. So FUN! It makes a mess, but it so worth it. I could NOT wait to style this photoshoot for my little boy’s first birthday. I had a million ideas and Pinterest boards while deciding on the perfect theme for Avery’s very first birthday. My husband thought I was absolutely CRAZY!!! But, that is nothing new. And.. by now, he is totally use to it.

I had to have a pre-party photoshoot for my little guy that would get everyone excited about the upcoming event. I even made my little dude’s photoshoot smash cake all on my VERY own. So, there is no pastry chef or bakery to credit or thank.. other than a good ole’ box of Betty Crocker and myself. I have to admit, I was pretty darn proud of myself! lol.

I was really looking forward to watching Avery dig into the cake, but to my surprise.. he did NOT like the idea too much. lol. I guess it was a little too messy for him? I wonder where he gets that from??? Haha. So, this photoshoot is not as messy as others I have seen. But, I still think they turned out absolutely doll! I will be posting all of the details from Avery’s first birthday party very soon. So, be sure to keep following. Enjoy!

XOXO, Britt

And.. just like any other Mom, I love to dress my little pumpkin up! So, there is no doubt that my little dude doesn’t already have an outfit agenda for the next coming months that consist of holiday after holiday. But, what type of Mom would I be if he did not have the festive “undies” to match his Mom’s madness for the upcoming holiday?! lol. Sorry, but questionable. Just Kidding! 😉 No, but really! Hehe.

Anyways, most of you pretty awesome Moms, like myself, are probably well aware of the diaper line known as The Honest Co.! Like, seriously.. the coolest diapers – EVER. Right? Halloween: Trick Or Treat Yo’ Self!!!

Hey Ya’ll! It is officially Fall! So, I am unsure if anyone loves Halloween more than me?! Seriously, I just love this holiday!!! And.. I am not exactly sure why? I guess it sorta’ has something to do with the fact that it is the holiday that kick starts the holiday season, which I highly anticipate ALL year long! Not to mention, I love the feeling I get inside once the Fall time finally arrives. Is it just me? Or is there a different smell in the air?! Or the fact that everything is basically “Pumpkin Spice”! Ugh, I am so basic. I know! lol.

Anyways, I love all of the fun, festive colors and the fact that every store has a section of some Halloween fun and decor. Literally, I can spend hours on just one, single aisle. It is INSANE! Most importantly, having children makes the Halloween season even more FUN! So, I am always thinking of ways to make the month of October fun for them.

Lately, I have not only been brainstorming on what to gift the kid’s classmates for their upcoming Halloween parties at school. But, I have also been thinking about what to gift their teachers? Sure, I could just gift them a Halloween coffee cup. I am sure they have received PLENTY of those over the course of their teaching years! But, then I started to think.. maybe I should gift them something to satisfy their sweet tooth and feed them the sugar rush they need to run after those kiddos. But, it has to be PRETTY and stylish.. of course!

And.. then it finally came to me! Maggie Louise. Have you ever heard of Maggie Louise Confections? Well, if you haven’t.. you will LOVE me for it. I just love these pretty, little sweets. I mean, not only are they delicious but they are so stinking cute! Just take a look. I could not resist.. but to take a bite! Personally, I love the milk chocolate with peanut butter candy. But, there are also four other flavors I am sure you will “fall” in love with.

And.. you can even get 15% off of your order by simply subscribing to their e-mail list! She has so MANY fun chocolates to choose from. You can choose to gift these little goodies or simply order a box for yourself! Because trust me, you deserve to “Trick Or Treat Yo’ Self” this Halloween season. I surely did! And.. I also decided to treat the kid’s teachers as well. If ordering, ask me how to receive $15.00 off of your order. If you loved this fun, festive blog.. be sure to keep an eye out for some more SPOOKY FUN to come! I am ONLY getting started. Oh, and.. I hope you enjoy these chocolates as MUCH as I did! Happy Shopping. XOXO
